Together, the two women charged with Sadie murder

- By Emily Kent Smith

THESE are the two women charged with the murder of 60-year-old businesswoman Sadie Hartley.

In a sleeveless top that shows off her tattooed arms, riding instructor Katrina Walsh, 55, smiles for the camera with close friend Sarah Williams, 34.

Walsh yesterday became the second suspect charged over the killing of mother- of-two Mrs Hartley, who was knifed to death at home last week as part of an alleged love triangle.

She appeared before magistrates in Blackburn, the day after ski worker Williams. They have both been remanded in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court today.

The pair, both from Chester, are thought to have met at a riding centre in Merseyside, more than a decade ago. Walsh’s former husband Kevin said the pair shared a love of horses but he was unaware his ex had known Mrs Hartley, boss of a medical communications company.

Mrs Hartley was found dead with stab wounds last Friday in the hallway of her home in Lancashire.

Yesterday her children Charlotte, 22, and Harry, 23, described her as ‘the best mum we could have’.

Walsh taught dressage and horse riding and was also a jewellery designer. She was described as ‘friendly’ and ‘chatty’ by neighbours in Piper’s Ash in Cheshire, where lives in a £190,000 semi- detached cottage. Her mother-in-law June Wikeley, 79, said she was a keen motorbiker and animal lover who had often rescued trapped wildlife.

It also emerged that Williams had a 74-year-old lover, who she met at 17 when he came to a riding yard with his wife. A source described her as ‘level headed’ and ‘nice’.
