Royals force Parker Bowles to demolish his restaurant

-

Simon Parker Bowles is upset with the Royal Family — again. First Prince Charles seduced his sister-inlaw Camilla, now the Duchess of Cornwall, away from his brother, Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles.

now Green’s, the restaurant he established in St James’s 34 years ago, is being demolished by the Crown Estate, the outfit that oversees the Queen’s land and property.

‘it’s true that we are being forced to close Duke Street due to the insatiable desire of the Crown Estate to redevelop,’ Parker Bowles tells me. ‘We do plan to re-open in mayfair. At the moment, i am just deeply upset that i will have to move from my beloved Green’s after 34 years.’

Green’s Restaurant & oyster Bar, a favourite haunt of Diana, Princess of Wales, will finally close its doors on April 23, when the Crown Estate redevelops the Duke’s Court premises as part of its £500m ‘investment strategy’ for the area.

To make matters worse, a source tells me Green’s has not yet found a new home, despite reports Parker Bowles has been in talks with marco Pierre White to move Green’s to the site of Wheeler’s round the corner.

Parker Bowles founded Green’s in 1982 but the business began to go off the boil in 2013, when Green’s closed its sister restaurant in the City.

Last summer, the Crown Estate, which is worth £11.5 billion and owns almost half of the buildings in St James’s, announced plans to convert Duke’s Court into 36,000 sq ft of office space, plus shops, restaurants and luxury apartments.

in happier days, Baroness Thatcher propped up the bar. ‘There are so many tales waiting to be told,’ he says.
