Can I get rid of my bingo wings without scarring?

-

She’S at the forefront of treatments to keep women looking younger for longer. So, who better to answer your questions on ageing than leading cosmetic skin expert Dr Tracy Mountford. Q: I HATE the crepey, slack-looking skin on the inside of my upper arms. I’m very slim and the rest of my body is fit, but I’ve tried every exercise in the book and cannot firm this area. I’ve heard there is an operation, but it leaves a long scar. A: The upper arms are a key area of concern for a lot of women, particularly those who are very fit and have low body fat.

Surgery is often the best option, but does leave a visible scar. But there is a non-surgical treatment called Thermage CPT that uses radio frequency technology to firm and tighten lax skin. It works by remodelling the collagen in the deeper layers of the skin as well as stimulating the production of fresh, healthy collagen, which lifts and smooths the crepey skin.

With prices from £2,500, the treatment takes approximately an hour and results show from 12 weeks and last about 18 months.

Another concern is ‘bingo wings’, which are due to deposits of fat in the upper arm area. We can treat this with Coolsculpting fat freezing, a non-invasive procedure that freezes the fat cells so they crystalise and are naturally eliminated from the body over six to eight weeks. Results start to show in as little as three weeks, with optimum results seen at eight weeks — and once the fat is gone, it’s gone for good. This is a very popular treatment and only takes an hour to do both arms.
