BY the age of 16, native english children – especially the poor – are outperform­ed by pupils from no fewer than twelve other ethnic groups, many of whom spoke no english when they started school.

This is partly because the families of migrant children are often passionate about education but also because teachers inevitably devote more time and attention to them, at the expense of those born here. Another example of how mass migration has damaged the prospects of a generation of young Britons.
