Pity for Rob

-

PooR Rob Titchener, roundly condemned and vilified as the nation’s favourite pantomime villain in Radio 4’s The Archers.

I can’t help feeling it’s time we recognised that he is as much a victim of circumstance as the unfortunate Helen.

Sent away to boarding school as a tiny child with all the deprivation of love and human intimacy such places foster. His holidays were presumably spent with a manipulative, conniving mother who it seems will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

Is it any surprise he turned out to be a man with deep psychological issues regarding the female sex and ‘control’?

We are all simply products of our genes, early years, upbringing, and perhaps to a lesser degree, life experience. We only have to look at the recent cases in the real world to know that this is true.

Unfortunately, being human, we do love to take the easy way out and turn highly complex moral problems into black- and- white issues of good and bad.

A little less condemnation and a bit more rational thinking might yet save the world.
