BOXER Nicola Adams’s quest to qualify for the Olympics began with a victory at the European qualifying tournament in Turkey yesterday. The 33-year-old beat Iulia Coroli of Moldova and will face Sarah Ourahmoune of France in the last eight tomorrow. Reaching the final would ensure Adams qualifies for Rio.

LEWIs HAMILTON insists he is psychologically in the ‘best place ever’ despite a difficult start to his world championship defence. the 31-year-old’s campaign has been blighted by poor starts and he trails Nico Rosberg by 17 points after the opening two rounds. he said: ‘People are asking if I’m worried, but I’m feeling the complete opposite.’

KENYAN president Uhuru Kenyatta has said he will personally ensure his country passes legislation to meet a World Anti-Doping Agency deadline, meaning Kenya’s athletes would be allowed to compete at the Olympics. WADA has set a deadline of May 2 for Kenya to sort out its anti-doping programme.
