Did you sleep with him, singer asks BBC girl

- By Sam Creighton

IT IS hardly the gentle questioning BBC Breakfast is known for.

Dishevelled singer Lisa Stansfield asked presenter Naga Munchetty live on air if she had had sex with Prince. The awkward exchange before 8.30am yesterday came after Miss Munchetty, 41, revealed she danced with the musician in a nightclub on her 21st birthday.

Miss Stansfield, 50, who was on the show to pay tribute to the star who died on Thursday, was accused by viewers of being drunk because of her lewd behaviour.

After a rambling tribute from Miss Stansfield — in which she compared Prince’s music to the north of England, adding: ‘Out of poverty and hardship come strength’ — Miss Munchetty, who has been married since 2004, told of when she met the singer two decades ago.

Miss Stansfield, who met Prince when they performed in the same concerts, immediately asked: ‘Did you or didn’t you?’ referring to his lothario reputation.

The embarrassing silence that followed was broken when co-host Charlie Stayt said: ‘That’s where we stop the story’, after which Miss Munchetty jokingly said: ‘How very dare you.’ She’d told how she was approached by Prince’s staff, who said he wanted her to dance with him. ‘I danced to his latest single and met him and had a chat to him.

‘It was the talk of university when I went back. I’ve been a massive fan all my life.’

At which point, Miss Stansfield jumped in to say: ‘And did everyone say, “Did you or didn’t you?” ’

The interview saw Miss Stansfield swaying on the sofa, to viewers’ surprise. One tweeted: ‘Hands up if you think Lisa Stansfield fell out of the boozer and straight into the #BBCBreakfast studios?’

But the singer later denied she was drunk on the programme.
