Yours for £50k, a 1933 penny

-

THE 1933 penny is, for many collectors, the ultimate prize. Now one of these extremely rare coins, pictured, is to be auctioned, with experts expecting a record £50,000 price.

The sale next month is expected to draw bids from around the world. Only seven of the coins were minted, along with four pattern prototypes designed by the French artist Andre Lavrillier.

It is one of the prototypes that is being sold by the auction house Baldwin’s.

A spokesman said: ‘Everyone knows about the British 1933 penny, but the pattern prototype is even rarer – whilst seven currency pennies were struck, there were only four of the prototype.’
