Plane seat that’s like a wine waiter

-

FOR many passengers flying can be a stressful experience with limited leg room, a noisy cabin and chairs they cannot adjust.

But a new aircraft seat could one day mean travellers can lie back and relax in individual booths tailored to their every need – including making sure they never have an empty wine glass.

The booth, named the Waterfront seat, will give business class passengers peace and quiet by separating them from other travellers and will allow them to control the temperature of their surroundings using a tablet device. The booth will have a 24inch TV screen and the seat will be able to convert into a 79-inch bed.

Passengers will be able to use their tablets to order food and drink with requests sent to the cabin crew to ensure minimum disruption. It is hoped that in the future even more advanced seats will have sensors that monitor if your wine glass needs a refill.

The Waterfront seat, which is currently under development, was designed by Panasonic and B/E Aerospace in conjunction with design firms. It is hoped it could be introduced to aircraft by 2019.
