Terror fears of holidaymakers

-

SAFETY is the most important factor when holidaymakers choose an overseas destination, a study found.

Eighty per cent give careful consideration to safety and security before booking a trip, according to the research.

Concerns about terror attacks have increased after the killing of 38 people – including 30 Britons – by a gunman on a beach in Sousse, Tunisia, last June.

This week Italian intelligence chiefs warned that Islamic State is planning a summer of terror on Mediterranean beaches in Europe with bombs buried under sunbeds and gunmen posing as ice cream sellers.

The Post Office Travel Money survey of 2,099 adults found that 79 per cent say transport costs are a significant influence on where they go, while 74 per cent cited health issues at the destination as a key consideration.

Resort costs for meals, drinks and other items are important for 72 per cent of consumers, while 65 per cent pay close attention to weather forecasts before booking.
