Lerner’s email tantrum
ASTON VILLA owner Randy Lerner is believed to have ‘lost it’ in his email to former governor of the Bank of England Mervyn King that sparked his and colleague David Bernstein’s resignations from the board last week.
Lerner was reacting to leaked communication of what was understood to be measured analysis of Villa’s problems sent by King to Bernstein, who was leading the planned root-and-branch review. And any criticisms of Lerner’s ownership were said to be mild compared to the vitriol against King in Lerner’s reply.
Lerner took full responsibility for the Villa shambles yesterday. AS TRIPLE world champion Adam Peaty prepares for the Olympics, aspiring swimmers in his home city of Derby have nowhere to train. The council closed Peaty’s former training pool at Queen’s Leisure Centre this week for health and safety reasons during repairs to the roof, having earlier shut Derby’s other pool, Moorways, for financial reasons. ENGLISH football at all levels is desperately in need of more coaches from ethnic minorities, so at least the FA have one black coach in Lee Skyrme among the eight appointments to the England development set-up under technical director Dan Ashworth at St George’s Park. c.sale@dailymail.co.uk and twitter.com/charliesale
