Sakho has failed us, says Carra
JAMIE CARRAGHER believes Mamadou Sakho has badly let Liverpool down after his failed drugs test.
UEFA are investigating the French centre back, who is facing a ban of anywhere between six months and two years.
It is believed Sakho used diet pills, with his sample after the Europa League tie against Manchester United on March 17 contravening UEFA rules.
Sportsmail understands the 26-year-old trained at Melwood yesterday but it remains unclear whether he will play for Jurgen Klopp’s side again this season.
Carragher feels Liverpool have been left in the lurch by Sakho (below) ahead of Thursday’s Europa League semi-final first leg at Villarreal.
‘He’s let himself and the club down badly. He’s become a really important player,’ the Sportsmail columnist told Sky Sports. ‘There’s serious questions to be asked of him.’
Fans were last night still waiting to hear whether Sakho has asked UEFA doping officials to test the B sample he provided on the same night. Carragher is particularly disappointed given how impressive Sakho has become alongside Dejan Lovren at the back. Kolo Toure — who was suspended for failing a drugs test himself while at Manchester City — will fill his place. Carragher added: ‘Sakho’s had a great campaign. He’s one of the leaders of the team now, certainly within that run, thinking about how well he played in the Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund games. It’s now how Liverpool fill that void. ‘For a professional footballer, as in any sport, it’s not acceptable.’
