Chelsea call for calm over bank holiday Spurs clash

- By MATT BARLOW

CHELSEA have appealed for calm ahead of their derby with Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Bank Holiday Monday. Previous encounters have been plagued by anti-semitic chants against Spurs, who have links to the Jewish community, and a complaint about comments on social media has already been made in the run-up to the game. Home fans would love to see Spurs’ title bid scuppered, should it still be up for grabs after the weekend, but Chelsea said both sets of supporters should be ‘passionate but respectful’. They warned that offenders may be banned and reported to police. There is particular concern as Monday’s clash kicks off at 8pm on a day when many fans will have been off work.

CHELSEA’S dominance of youth football shows no signs of ending. This was their third consecutive FA Youth Cup triumph and their fifth in the last seven seasons. Chelsea captain John Terry watched from the stands at Stamford Bridge, where he is set to make his comeback from injury against Tottenham on Monday. Held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Manchester, Chelsea dominated once Dujon Sterling capitalised on a horrendous mistake by City keeper Daniel Grimshaw to score on the stroke of half-time. In the second half, Isaac Christie-Davies floated a ball across and Tammy Abraham’s looping header beat Grimshaw and fell just inside the post. The contest over, Chelsea pushed for further goals and Fikayo Tomori rose completely unmarked to head home Mason Mount’s right-wing cross and score the third. There was consolation for City as Brahim Diaz prodded home from close range after side-stepping a couple of defenders.
