I’ll carry on boozing says Brit who almost died ‘sinking 75 shots’

- By Tammy Hughes

A BRITISH tourist hospitalised after claiming he drank 75 shots of spirit bragged last night that he would celebrate his recovery by going out drinking.

Cameron Relf, 18, was put on a drip for eight hours after he collapsed in a drunken heap in a street gutter in the party town of Magaluf in Majorca.

An unrepentent Mr Relf, a food company worker from Walsall, said he took ‘a night off’ after he was released from hospital but intended to go out drinking last night – and every night until his break ends on Sunday.

‘I want to make the most of the holiday – it’s all a bit of fun really,’ he added, despite acknowledging that the doctors were ‘pretty short with me’ and that his antics had left his mother distraught.

Last night Daily Mail GP Dr Martin Scurr said: ‘I am amazed this young man didn’t die. This amount of alcohol is damaging for nearly every system in your body, let alone the fact that you might vomit and be so insensible that you inhale it and suffocate.’

He added: ‘ No one should consume such huge quantities of alcohol. I have heard of people dying after drinking a bottle of whiskey and that’s a lot less than 75 shots.’ Mr Relf had been drink- ing with friends earlier this week, but was left alone when one went back to their hotel and the other went to withdraw cash.

Alone in a bar, he said he was cheered on by staff and other British tourists as he started downing dozens of shots of sambuca and caramel vodka.

‘I had about 75 in total,’ he added. It is the kind of reckless behaviour that has earned many young tourists from the UK a bad reputation in Magaluf, and last year the Spanish authorities brought in laws aimed at ending the resort’s sleazy reputation.

In 2014 a girl from Northern Ireland made headlines around the world when she performed a sex act on 24 men in a bar.

Sceptics say the new rules, which include men having to wear shirts at night and a ban on ‘sex games’ in bars, are unenforceable.

Mr Relf said he and his friends had ‘been up for a really large night out – that’s what you do in Magaluf’.

But his evening ended on the pavement outside the bar when he collapsed while trying to make his way back to his hotel. ‘When I woke up in hospital, the doctors were pretty short with me and only took my insurance details before sending me on my way,’ he said.

He added: ‘I took a night off to recover, but I’m going back out, although I’ll probably stay off the sambuca for a bit.

‘When my mum found out about the trip to hospital she was really worried, but I don’t think she knows how bad it was.’
