DRESS TO FEEL MOTIVATED

-

what we wear can affect our mood. Colour psychologist Angela Wright on the best shade to get you inspired.

THERE are two times of the year when we tend to focus on our shortcomings and make resolutions to improve: the New Year and the run-up to summer. In January, after the excesses of the festive season, we have good intentions: go to the gym, start that diet . . .

At this time of the year, it’s more physical. The change in temperature heralds the relentless scrutiny of flesh, which is revealed by bright sunshine and skimpier clothes. The good news is that research has found resolutions are more likely to stick now than at New Year. But we can quickly become jaded and lose our enthusiasm.

Thankfully, colour can help. Our energy naturally lifts in springtime and we feel more comfortable wearing bright colours, which in turn supports our energy and determination. The two best colours to wear when you are on a mission are bright red and bright blue. Red reinforces your determination and helps you to keep moving. Physically stimulating, red focuses your attention on your body and activity.

Blue is the colour of the mind and will help to psych yourself into the right attitude. Wearing a strong blue will help you to stay on the straight and narrow. It is the colour that keeps us on our best behaviour.
