A washing machine-proof £5 note is due to be unveiled this week.

The Bank of England’s new plastic fiver will be wipe-clean, impossible to tear and able to survive a wash at 90C. Its design features Winston Churchill, as a replacement for prison reformer Elizabeth Fry. About 440m of the notes will come into circulation in September.
