3 killed as trains crash at 60mph

THREE people were killed and nine others injured when a latenight passenger train slammed into a slowmoving freight train.

Two carriages from the passenger service derailed when it rearended the freight carrier at around 11pm on Sunday in Hermalle- sousHuy, 17 miles from Liege in Belgium.

The dead included two passengers and the train’s driver, according to rail officials.

Some of the injured were reported to be in a critical condition and the death toll could rise.

Belgian rail police and state prosecutors are investigating the accident. Their work is expected to take months.
