Great, but not greatest
MUHAMMAD ALI was not the greatest ever boxer (Mail), not even in the heavyweight division. The supreme holder of boxing’s top title was Rocky Marciano who had 49 fights and scored 49 wins, all of which were knock-outs. His career and life ended in an air crash.
In discussing Ali’s social impact, don’t forget what Joe Louis did for Afro-Americans in the constructive years of the Thirties, without constantly seeking self-publicity.
I met him in his later years in Las Vegas, and found him to be a quietly spoken gentleman. Neil s. Mallard, Lillingstone Lovell, Bucks.
