Sterling slips back
STERLING fell against the euro and the US dollar yesterday amid fresh uncertainty over the outcome of the referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU.
The pound fell to a four- week low below €1.27 in early trading before clawing back some of its losses. It was also on the slide against the greenback. The lat- est swings in the value of sterling came after a series of opinion polls showed rising support for a Brexit ahead of the vote on June 23.
Reports by pro-EU banks warning Brexit would send the pound tumbling have sparked outrage among eurosceptics who accused the ‘remain’ camp of talking down the pound.
