Deschamps may shake up his team despite win

THEY may have just scraped a 2-1 win but I thought France were excellent against Romania on Friday.

There was so much quality on display, particularly in midfield, and a lot of the talk in the build-up to this match is how they will line up. It’s not unusual for a coach to tinker with his team mid-tournament and Payet’s performance against Romania after being moved more centrally may force Didier Deschamps to do so.

However, starting Payet where he was most effective would raise the issue of where to play Paul Pogba — the golden boy. He wasn’t at his best on Friday but I would rather see Deschamps drop Blaise Matuidi. They’re similar players but Pogba has that star quality.

It was a remarkable achievement by Albania to qualify for their first European Championship but they could get a real thumping here. There has been plenty of speculation over who will score the most goals in this competition and Olivier Giroud could fill his boots in this game. VERDICT: France win. KEY STAT: France have won four of the six matches played against Albania but have failed to win either of the last two meetings (drawn 1, lost 1). BIG MATCH BET: France were guilty of fluffing a few chances in the win over Romania but we’ll put that down to first-night nerves and back them to find their touch. A 4-0 win is 11-1.
