I don’t even go to the gym, reveals Vardy

- SAMI MOKBEL reports from Chantilly

JAMIE VARDY has made the surprising confession that his training regime does not include any gym work. The slender England striker scored just 11 minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute in the euphoric win over Wales. His goal came just days after photos emerged of Vardy in Chantilly holding a tub of nicotine pouches and a can of Red Bull. And Vardy has revealed further behind-the-scenes secrets of his preparation for games. ‘The last time I lifted a weight? Probably that can of Red Bull the other day,’ said the Leicester forward. ‘I don’t go to the gym, if I did it will slow me down. I don’t go in for weights or anything like that. ‘Each and every person is different and this is my way, and I’m sure if someone else tried doing what I do then it probably wouldn’t work

for them. People have tried to drag me in but they’ve tried and not succeeded.’ On the concoction of nicotine and caffeine, Vardy added: ‘It’s just something I’ve always done and they’ve been checked with the medical team and there’s nothing wrong with them. ‘I wouldn’t call it a diet, the Red Bull was just to wake me up in the morning. It’s just standard me, a bit of Red Bull. It’s not a regular thing whereby I have a Red Bull every morning.’ Vardy’s mindset ahead of the tournament came under scrutiny after news emerged of Arsenal’s bid to sign him just days before the squad set off for France. The striker is yet to officially reveal whether he will join the Gunners or opt to sign a new deal at the King Power Stadium. Nevertheless, Vardy is adamant the uncertainty over his domestic future is not hampering his Euro 2016 chances. ‘It’s been easy (to shut that out),’ he said. ‘I’m here to concentrate and focus on England and that’s all I’m going to be doing.’
