KNACKERED MOTHERS’ WINE CLUB
BARGAIN OF THE WEEK Pujalet White 2015, £5.49, Waitrose
FOR a party white, look no further. This one, from the Cotes de Gasgogne region in south-west France is fresh and gently fruity thanks to a blend of local grapes. Also: it comes in a screwcap, has got a pretty label and is less than £6.
WHITE WINE Tim Adams Semillon 2012, £9, Tesco
HERE’S a grape variety that ages gracefully. With a few years in the bottle, it develops some fabulous flavours including limes, lemons and a honeyed character. Made in South Australia’s Clare Valley, it’s a steal at this price.
Food pairing: Herby grilled chicken.
RED WINE Soraie Veneto Cecilia Beretta 2014, £10.95, Corney & Barrow
LOVE Amarone? This is like an Amarone-lite made in the Veneto region in northern Italy. Made from partially dried grapes, like Amarone, you get concentrated cherrychocolate flavours but not quite the same whack of alcohol and flavour as you would from a full-blown Amarone. A seriously fun summer red.
Food pairing: Spicy sausage.
ROSE WINE Truly Irresistible Pic Saint Loup Rose 2014, £6.99, Co-op
IF YOU’RE grabbing a bottle on your way home, the Truly Irresistible range is worth a look. There are some gems, like this bright, juicy rose. Stuffed with fresh redcurrant flavours, it’s from France’s Languedoc. A great pick.
Food pairing: Bowl of olives.
