MURRAY’S POSSIBLE PATHS TO THE FINAL

-

EASIEST ROUTE

R4 NICK KYRGIOS (AUS) The 15th seed has never played at his best against Murray, winning only one set in their four meetings. QF JO-WILFRIED TSONGA (FRA) The 12th seed is a flashy player but Murray has enjoyed the better of him in recent times, winning 11 of their last 12 matches. SF JIRI VESELY (CZE) The 22-year-old world No 64 beat Novak Djokovic in Monte Carlo this year. But Murray has a 66-4 record against left-handers not called Rafael Nadal. F NICOLAS MAHUT (FRA) Grass is the world No 51’s best surface but it would be a tough ask for the 34-year-old to beat Murray over the best of five sets.

DIFFICULT ROUTE

R4 KYRGIOS (AUS) If anyone can bring an end to Murray’s 18-match unbeaten run against Australians at tour level, then it is probably the 21-year-old. QF RICHARD GASQUET (FRA) The seventh seed has suffered some of his most painful defeats by Murray, losing twice from two sets up at Roland Garros in 2010 and Wimbledon in 2008. SF TOMAS BERDYCH (CZE) The 10th seed has had some close battles with Murray over the years, although the Brit has had the upper hand recently with victories in their last four matches. F ROGER FEDERER (SWI) The 17-time Grand Slam champion was sublime in his straight-sets win over Murray in last year’s semi-finals here. But the 34-year-old has struggled with injury this year.
