ED HARCOURT: Furnaces (Polydor)

‘DON’T let me dampen your mood,’ pleads Harcourt on a record that gloomily tackles war, climate change, fracking and alcohol abuse. He’s being droll, but this seventh album will do little to widen his cult appeal. He does have a flair for widescreen indie-rock. That — and the title track’s bright horns — offer some respite from his apocalyptic visions.
