Brits flocking to Turkey

-

PACKAGE holiday firm Thomas Cook said Brits continue to flock to Turkey despite the security risks, although the number has dropped since last year.

Some 650,000 UK holidaymakers – undeterred by terror attacks and a failed military coup – chose Turkey for a break this season.

But that is 40pc down on last year, and flights to Spain and the western Mediterra- nean have swelled to make up the shortfall causing a squeeze on bed capacity.

Revenue for the second quarter of this year was down 8pc to £1.8bn, reflecting the impact of terror attacks and the failed coup.

Thomas Cook chief executive Peter Fankhauser said the company would continue to offer holidays in the country, following the lead of UK intelligence services.
