KEIGHLEY’S CHELTENHAM VOW
Trainer Martin Keighley says his motivation to train Cheltenham Festival winners remains undiminished despite the decision to disqualify any Currency following his win in the crosscountry event in March.
The 13-year-old was found to have traces of triamcinolone acetonide in his urine sample following his victory. it can be used in training for therapeutic purposes but is a prohibited substance on race days, which means it must not be in a horse’s system. Yesterday’s British Horseracing authority hearing exonerated Keighley from any wrongdoing but promoted enda Bolger’s Josies Orders to first place following the transgression. it was a frustrating outcome for Keighley, especially as any Currency had finally won the unique test after finishing runner-up the two previous years. Keighley (left) said: ‘i am pleased they recognised we have done nothing wrong. We have just been unlucky. We just need to move on and make sure we have more Festival winners.’
RACING correspondent Marcus Townend rides in the HEROS charity race at Windsor tomorrow and bookmakers William Hill have donated a series of charity bets with proceeds going to the retraining of racehorses organisation. Today’s selections are LOOTING (Ffos Las, 2.45) and RECONCILLIATION (newmarket, 3.45), £100 placed on both to win.
