It’s a dog’s life as Lewis takes a hit

- JOE DOWNES reports from Spa, Belgium

A WHEEL has not yet been turned, but Lewis Hamilton already admits it will be ‘very, very hard’ to win in Belgium. After six wins in seven races Hamilton has a 19-point World F1 Championship lead over team-mate Nico Rosberg. But he faces a tough task on Sunday after receiving a grid penalty for exceeding his engine allocation. Mercedes confirmed: ‘We will take an engine penalty this weekend. He [Hamilton] will start from the back of the field or very close.’ After walking his dogs in the Belgian sunshine, Hamilton said: ‘It is going to be very, very hard. Red Bull are looking very quick in some of the races so it is going to be even harder to climb through the field. It is about minimising the damage from taking the penalty. I plan to continue with the momentum I had before the break. There could be a safety car and lots can happen. I just hope I can get into the points.’ Rosberg cautioned: ‘It’s still going to be a challenge because just four weeks ago I finished behind two Red Bulls.’
