Yates sprints to stage win
BRITISH cyclist Simon Yates clinched his first grand tour stage victory with a late attack on stage six of the Vuelta a Espana. The 24-year-old Bury-born Orica-Bike-Exchange rider, who missed the Tour de France as he was serving a four-month ban for a ‘nonintentional’ anti-doping rule violation, surged clear 4km from the finish. Colombian Darwin Atapuma kept the overall lead, 28 seconds ahead of Movistar’s Alejandro Valverde. Team Sky’s Chris Froome is third, a further four seconds back.
