Arched or bold? The eyebrow map of Britain

- By Rehema Figueiredo Showbusiness Reporter

A RAISED or furrowed brow can help to show how a woman is feeling, but now research suggests it could also reveal where she comes from.

Analysis of two million pairs of brows across the country has shown we are a nation obsessed with the perfect shape.

scottish women are most likely to opt for a thin brow, similar to author JK rowling’s, the study revealed.

While 200 miles further south in Manchester women go for a similar shape, but with a fuller arch.

The survey was carried out by superdrug based on requests made at eyebrow bars located in its shops.

It revealed the fullest look can be found in Birmingham and Essex, where women generally opt to keep their eyebrows thick, as exemplified by businesswoman Karren Brady, a judge on The Apprentice.

In Essex, a popular request is the ‘super-defined brow’ treatment which involves tinting as well as shaping for a bold look. Frankie Essex, from the TV reality show The Only Way Is Essex, is an advocate of this style. The most popular style in London is a subtle shape that is obviously groomed but not too thin – a look singer Adele epitomises.

And in the south-west of England, women favour using pencils in natural tones to give their eyebrows a thicker, feathered appearance.

rupert Kingston, founder of cosmetics firm Delilah, said: ‘It’s really great that eyebrows have become such a focus. Ten years ago no one would have let you pencil their eye brows in.

‘As women have got better and better at doing their brows they have learned how eyebrows balance the face without be-ing the main focus.’

When it comes to eyebrow grooming, while plucking and waxing are popular, the Asian technique of removing hair from the root by threading has become a hassle-free way for many women to shape their brows.

Make-up artist Liz Pugh said: ‘I feel that with waxing you don’t have the control and you’re pulling very delicate skin around your eyes which you’re not doing with threading. I think threading has become really popular.’ A superdrug spokesperson said: ‘When it comes to the way we look, brows have become incredibly important. unless you’re blessed with a natural arch with perfect symmetry it can be tricky to reshape them and ensure

‘Give the face balance’

you get both eyebrows evenly shaped. The amazing thing is that a slight tweak can make a huge difference. Just extending or shortening the brow by a couple of millimetres can completely transform the shape of the face.’
