Student plea

STUDENTS are being urged to check their bank details to make sure their loan payments are not paid into a stranger’s account.

the Student Loans Company is asking them to log in to check their online loan accounts at gov.uk/studentfin­ance.

It says that last year over 240 students put incorrect bank details on their applicatio­n forms. It meant their money was at risk.

Price hike

MOBILE giant EE is hiking the cost of calls made outside your monthly contract allowance.

From September 28, standard calls will cost 50p per minute — up from 40p per minute. Late payment fees are increasing, too, from £5 to £7.50.

Card deals

HALIFAX has launched a credit card offering 0 pc interest on balance transfers for 25 months with no fee.

A 41-month card is available, but it has a 3.5 pc fee — £87.50 on a typical £2,500 balance. Both offer 0 pc on new purchases for six months.

Nuisance calls

COLD-CALLING companies have been fined £1.5 million in the past eight months after bombarding home owners with more than 70 million nuisance telephone calls and 500,000 spam text messages, reveal figures from the Informatio­n Commission­er’s Office.

ISA complaints

THE number of complaints from Isa savers who believe their money was put in investment­s that were riskier than they wanted has shot up 66.8 pc to 467 in 2015.

But the Financial ombudsman Service ruled in favour of the investor in just 17 pc of cases.

Currency con

FRAUDSTERS are targeting savers on social media with the promise of bumper returns from bogus currency investment­s.

Investors are asked to transfer money to fake brokers, who claim to place bets on a currency rising or falling. However, they then make off with the money, according to Action Fraud.

School fees

PARENTS spend £156,653 sending one child to private school from reception to year 13, found research by Lloyds Bank.

During this time, annual fees have nearly doubled from an average of £7,308 in 2003 to £13,341 in 2016.
