PICK OF THE DAY
INGENIOUS ANIMALS, 8PM, BBC1
FOR this new, four-part series, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall (pictured) and a team of experts travel the world to observe wild animals behaving in surprising ways. Zoologist Lucy Cooke watches urban raccoons in Toronto as they work together to raid domestic rubbish bins. In Florida, Hugh has a close encounter with one of his childhood animal heroes, the manatee — which aren’t as slow and stupid as they may appear. The star, though, is an orphaned elephant calf, which helps Giles Clark to understand these creatures’ extraordinary emotional intelligence.
