IF YOU’VE been to a wedding this summer, chances are you’ve seen many a trendy variation on the traditiona­l tiered fruit cake — whether it’s a ‘cheese’ cake, made of stacked wheels of cheddar, brie and Stinking Bishop, or a tower of delicate cupcakes. But the latest trend is a doughnut wall?

The premise is simple: hammer some pegs into a wall or large board, then hang the prettiest iced ring doughnuts you can find on them.

Like a traditiona­l cake, the doughnuts are finished with floral arrangemen­ts and kitsch trinkets.

It’s easier to distribute servings to guests and the doughnuts do double duty as a wedding favour. Plus, it stops the best man making jokes about emotional days and the cake being in tiers . . .
