WOMEN got the better of the men at three clubs who still had both teams chasing a place in finals week.

The women of Wilton, Walmersley and Grangemouth reached next month’s showpiece at Marriott St Pierre while the men’s teams fell by the wayside.

Wilton’s Pearl Crossen and Janet Payne beat Boldon’s Alyson Chapman and Julie Armitage 5&4 but Mark Newcombe and Kevin Nixon lost by two holes to Gary Scott and Mel Patterson of Warkworth. Walmersley’s Susan Appleby and Alison Gedge won at the first extra hole against Hart Common’s Lynn Jennings and Sue Atkinson but Dean Osborne and John Lee lost 4&2 to Worsley’s Michael Howell and Jonathon May.

And Grangemouth’s Janice Bridgeman and Fiona Lawless won 2&1 over Leven’s Moira Roberts and Lesley Hunter but David Cunningham and Jason McKinlay lost by two holes against Falkland’s David Sinclair and George Smith.
