REPORT CARD ON THE BRIT PACK

-

KYLE EDMUND

Has the weapons and attitude to go a long way and, at his best, looks like a nascent Jim Courier. Top 30 looks assured but must improve to translate that into Grand Slam-winning potential.

DAN EVANS

Showcased his exceptional handskills against Stan Wawrinka. A feisty character. If he applies himself, which is not certain, has top-20 capability.

ALJAZ BEDENE

Progress has been derailed by dispute over his Davis Cup eligibility. Still only 27, the Slovenian-born baseliner has a strong work ethic and ought to improve on a career-high of 45.

JO KONTA

Having backed up her soaring progress of late last year, the British No 1 can expect to have a lengthy career around the top of an increasingly open women’s field.

HEATHER WATSON

Capable of hot streaks but needs to fix her coaching situation and apply herself more consistently. A fixture in the top 100 and will enjoy a solid career providing complacency does not set in.

NAOMI BROADY

A late bloomer at 26, she showed a mature game to earn set points against fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska. Combative, tall and with a serve many men would envy.

LAURA ROBSON

Finally there are signs of the old Robson emerging after the trauma of wrist surgery. Penny seems to be dropping regarding the work required.
