FROM LASERS TO CREAMS, HOW TO GET THE LOOK

-

THERE are many ways in which you can achieve a fashionably pale complexion.

Salon treatments, including skin peels, laser and microdermabrasion, are becoming increasingly popular as ways of getting rid of pigmentation and the dull, dead skin on the surface, as well as encouraging cell regeneration beneath to create a fresh, luminous look.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) or photorejuvenation treatments are performed by dermatologists to erase freckles, pigmentation, and age spots on the face, neck and chest.

The treatment involves quick, intense flashes of light, which penetrate below the skin’s surface, to target the melanin responsible for discoloration.

The heat breaks down this pigment into tiny particles, which rise to the skin’s surface as scabs lasting for around a week or so.

There are also masses of overthe-counter products available to give a Victorian lady-style complexion. Established favourites include Clinique’s Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector (£42, boots.com) and Philosophy’s Microdelivery Triple-Acid Brightening Peel pads (£59.50, feelunique.com).

SkinCeuticals Advanced Pigment Corrector (£ 64,

effortlessskin.com) contains salicylic acid to help resurface skin, while La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Serum Anti-Dark Spot Concentrate Intensive, (£25.05, escentual.com), both brightens and smooths a dulllooking complexion.

An absolute winner for both price and result is the Avon Anew Clinical Advanced Resurfacing Peel (£10, avon.uk.com) — little pads containing glycolic acid to sweep over the face.

Foundations are also a popular path to paler skin. Make-up artist favourite is the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation (£29.50, charlottetilbury.com).

Autograph Illuminating Touch Radiance Foundation also gives a light, even look (£12.50, marks andspencer.com).

Finish off with a dash of highlighter, such as Urban Decay Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder For Face And Body (£22.50, urbandecay.co.uk) or the Mua Luxe Strobe & Glow Highlight Kit (£5, superdrug.

com), which will give cheeks and eyes a subtle shimmer.
