INVESTING in a pet services franchise business proved a life-changer for Matthew and Jen Snell,

The 39-year-olds are Trophy Pet Foods franchisees, delivering pet food, accessories and pet nutrition advice to customers in Swindon and North Wiltshire.

Jen says: ‘We were very happily married but something fundamental was missing from our lives — a family. No matter how busy our careers, we always seemed empty. ‘ Working as an employee in the traditional corporate world contrasted so poorly with Matt’s values that he found himself with a suspected heart condition at just 36.’

The couple decided that quitting the corporate world to run their own business would help to reduce their stress.

‘The Trophy Pet Foods franchise fitted our beliefs, needs and worklife balance,’ says Jen. ‘The improvement in our emotional well-being led us to investigate the possibility of adoption.

‘Four years on we have a perfect family and work-life balance.

‘We are so grateful that franchising has proven to be such a viable option.’

The Trophy Pet Foods franchise investment costs £13,995.

A pet care franchise changed Diane and Dave Caddy’s lives, too. Dave became a Dial-a-DogWash franchisees in 2006, providing a mobile dogwashing service.

Diane, 56, says: ‘Dave was a butcher and worked such long hours that we hardly saw him.

‘When we took the franchise, it meant the children and I saw more of him. It became so successful that I also work in the business and so do our now grown-up children, Natasha and Sam. It has transformed our lives.’

Franchisor Andy James says: ‘We are looking for people who love animals but also want to build a successful business. You need no dog grooming experience as the £14,999 investment includes intensive training, with a certificate at the end.’
