A life of privilege ...
FEMI Nandap had all the advantages of a wealthy international family, but spiralled into a mental illness that would one day end in tragedy.
The 23-year-old, whose nickname was ‘One Chance’, is originally from the city of Jos in central Nigeria.
Schooled in England, he attended an international school in Egham, Surrey, where he developed an upperclass English accent and played rugby. Photographs show him posing with other young men in exclusive nightclubs with an array of beautiful women.
But at some point he began to struggle with a mental disorder which is thought to have contributed to him roaming the capital with two kitchen knives. Seven months later he stabbed Dr Jeroen to death in a seemingly motiveless attack.
It is understood that Nandap had had little or no contact with mental health services in London before the attack.
But his online comments revealed a deeply troubled man who was clearly suffering powerful delusions and fantasies. In one Facebook posting in August, he wrote: ‘I’m wound pretty tight in the head and have a hard time letting my spirit [guides] control things... No excuse tho – its EVOLVE or DIE.’
On December 15 he added: ‘There’s a cancer in this planet and the sun is chemo.’
