Shotgun terror as gangster on bike opens fire near children

- By Arthur Martin

THIS is the terrifying moment a gangster opened fire with a shotgun just yards away from children.

The gunman blasted a 21-year-old man in the chest during the attack on an inner city street, puncturing his lung and seriously damaging his windpipe.

He also shot a 16-year-old boy – who was walking to the library – in the arm before escaping on a bicycle. Scotland Yard yesterday released CCTV footage of the may- hem in Brixton, south London. Detectives from Trident, which investigates gangrelated crimes, are treating the incident as attempted murder.

The footage shows three men dressed in black hoodies loitering on the corner of the street. One man pulls a shotgun out of his bag and passes it to another, who runs up the road before opening fire, hitting the man and boy. The gunman then waves the weapon at onlookers as he flees on a bicycle and his accomplices run behind.

Detectives believe the teenage victim was simply in the wrong place, but are trying to establish if the 21-year-old was the intended target of the shooting at 7pm on May 12. Both victims recovered.

Officers are searching for all three men. Detective Constable Jo Ross said: ‘These are dangerous people.’
