YOU HAVE YOUR SAY

-

EVERY week Money Mail receives hundreds of letters and emails about our stories. Here’s what you had to say about our guide to claiming from travel firms if your journey went wrong I’VE been fighting for months with a ferry company that refuses to give me compensation in cash. It keeps telling me I can only get vouchers. It’s ridiculous. I turn 80 next month and don’t think I’ll be on a ferry again any time soon. N. P., via email I’M STILL waiting for an airline to refund my original fare and pay compensation for a cancelled flight in June.

You have to apply through a link on its website and there is no other way to chase a claim. No address, no phone number, nothing. J. P., Bristol. I FEEL sorry for travel companies when they have to pay out hundreds of pounds for a threehour delay. This can be more than the customer had paid for their ticket in the first place.

Not all delays are the travel company’s fault and sometimes technical errors happen, as with anything technical. People expect way too much. M. D., Doncaster. I CLAIMED with the help of the CAA and the airline just ignored me. My flight was to Kuala Lumpur and delayed by more than 12 hours.

I heard nothing from the CAA in over a month so I went to the small claims court online, paid £35 and got an instant reply after the summons was issued. They settled in full: £510 plus £35 court costs. T. S., Sherborne, Dorset. THE CAA is still investigating my complaint from April. But even the regulator can’t take legal action for you — all it can do is offer advice. L. M., Southampton. IF YOU do get compensation for your flight delay this year, don’t complain next summer when the prices of flights shoot up. N. T., Manchester. IF THERE is a problem with French trains, you will get a refund, but only if it is a TGV — if it is a TER train, you won’t get anything.

My sister-in-law has just found this out for herself. She travelled back to Paris and her train broke down and was three hours late arriving — so she missed her flight and the next one — and had to stay overnight at the airport. S. P., Southport, Merseyside. UK REGULATORS are a waste of space. They are excellent at getting you to submit all your details, but toothless when it comes to getting compensation.

You have to wonder what exactly their true function is, apart from information gathering. S. V., Wallasey, Merseyside.
