10 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

1. This year in Manhattan, blue is the new orange. Meanwhile, orange is the new green, and green is the new mauve. Pink is the new turquoise, magenta is the new vermilion and — latest news! — orange has just become the new blue.

2. As everyone already knows by now, 2016 is the year of the elbow. in celebration, Kate Moss’s elbows are featured across an eight-page spread in this month’s American vogue, and victoria Beckham’s latest range of upmarket cosmetics includes victoria’s Luxury elbow Blush and victoria’s exclusive elbow shader, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles on your elbows by up to 25 per cent on an overcast day.

3. LAST year, the 75 leading fashion models who attended the fabulous Met Gala ate their way through a grand total of two small lettuces, five tomatoes, half a cucumber and one low-fat biscuit.

‘it must have been all the excitement that drove them to gorge,’ comments fashion insider LaBelle Maison. ‘But the next day, they were back to their diets!’

4. U.S. VOGUE editor Anna Wintour is said to be a secret fan of the Carry on movies. ‘The minute she’s back from her fashion shoots, Anna takes off her dark glasses, relaxes in a colourful onesie and laughs herself sick over the saucy antics of sid James and Barbara Windsor,’ reveals a close friend.

5. There is considerable excitement among new york fashionistas over the latest range of Menswear for submariners, launched this week by veteran designer Karl Lagerfeld.

All the shirts, jackets and pyjama tops in the new collection sport Lagerfeld’s signature high collar, which extends the male neck by anything up to 10 in.

‘now, every submariner will be able to stick his head out of the water and see what’s going on without leaving his submarine,’ enthuses Karl. ‘it will save the navy a fortune on periscopes.’

6. This year, the palm is back — and it’s all the brainchild of fashion supremo Anna Wintour. For too long, the world’s leading supermodels have been encouraged to walk the catwalk with the palms of their hands pointing inwards — but from autumn 2016, they will all be pointing out.

This ‘palms out’ phenomenon has already had a major impact on the world beyond fashion. hillary Clinton has been spotted on the campaign trail with her palms out, and special advisers to republican contender Donald Trump have also reportedly been tutoring their candidate in the more fashionable pose.

in fact, displaying your palms to the world has now become so widespread that leading fashion writers are predicting it will be ‘last year’s thing’ by spring 2017, when the back of the hand will be staging a major fashion revival.

7. This year’s Met Gala, overseen by Anna Wintour, is set to take place inside a giant, 250 ft-high lifesize replica of Kim Kardashian’s backside. The news was greeted with horror by some fashion insiders. ‘But, my dear, Kim’s derriere is so LAST YEAR!’ argues fashion supremo Cedric of Manhattan. Following vociferous complaints from green lobbyists alarmed at the environmental impact of dismantling so large a structure, the Kardashian pavilion is later to be transported to the suffolk coast, where it will act as an all-weather covering for the sizewell B dome. 8. The last top model to have smiled while on a fashion catwalk was rose D’Arblay in the spring of 1989. she was never seen again. 9. vivienne Westwood’s show is called ‘stop ending The stop To Trident now’. it is said to be highly political. ‘i’ve always been dead against the nuclear deterrent,’ says the legendary fashion designer.

‘Because it’s such a deterrent, and that’s so negative, you can’t go on deterring this, deterring that. you’ve got to be positive, because i’m such a positive person.

‘so this year, i’m aiming to change the political landscape of the whole world with my exclusive vivienne Westwood Trident Clutch Bag and my limited- edition vivienne Westwood Trident Underwear.

‘i’m also honouring the Labour leader with my Gold Collection Corbyn Bustiere, which comes lined in gorgeous pinks and golds.

‘And you know what? Theresa May is already re-thinking her entire nuclear strategy, or so they tell me.’

10. The hot news from Manhattan is that stella McCartney has come up with a dress that a) doesn’t look daft and b) fits.

‘There’s a terrific buzz about it,’ enthuses a fashion insider. ‘ This really is a major new breakthrough for stella, and we’re all so happy for her.’
