After thirty years, Bros are back (for one night only...)

- By Tammy Hughes Showbusiness Reporter

THEY created a generation of ‘Brosettes’ who wore ripped jeans and threaded Grolsch bottle tops through their Doc Martens.

And yesterday, almost 25 years after they split amid spiralling debts, 80s boyband Bros delighted fans by announcing they are returning for a one-off gig.

It has been claimed the show, to mark the 30th anniversary of Bros’s arrival on the music scene, could pave the way for a European tour earning them £10million.

Twin heart-throbs Luke and Matt Goss, now 48, told a packed press conference their plan to reunite – albeit without their original bassist Craig Logan – was a ‘dream come true’. Matt promised the concert at London’s O2 arena next August, which will take place 28 years to the day since the band’s last gig at Wembley Stadium, would be a ‘spectacle’.

The lead singer added that he and his drummer twin were ‘in a good place together’ and that the show would be the best they had ever done.

Addressing the absence of Logan, who suffered burnout and quit in 1989 just a year after the band hit the big-time, the brothers said he was welcome to join them but that he was focused on his own career. The bassist sued the brothers for unpaid royalties after he left.

He is now a successful music executive who has managed the careers of artists including Sir Paul McCartney, Tina Turner and P!nk. Matt said: ‘Me and my brother started the band at school – Bros is Matt and Luke without question. Luke added: ‘Some of our greatest achievements are just the two of us. I’m very comfortable to say Matt and Luke are Bros.

‘I’m like a big kid right now, I’m pinching myself ... I have always wanted it to happen in my heart but wanted it to be at the right time.’

The pair appeared remarkably youthful despite the decades that have passed since their heyday. Bros formed in 1986, after the Lewi- sham-born Goss brothers met Logan while still at school in Camberley, Surrey. They were signed by label CBS and released the song When Will I Be Famous? in 1987, reaching number two in the charts.

The band had seven Top 10 singles between 1988 and 1989, including their sole UK number one I Owe You Nothing. By the time they split in 1992 they had sold 16million records but were in £500,000 worth of debt.

Bros were always greeted with hysteria by their adoring fans, the self-styled Brosettes. Recalling how girls would throw bras at him on stage, Matt said yesterday: ‘When those bras hit you on the face, let me tell you they leave a mark.’

Bros will play London’s O2 Arena on August 19, 2017. Tickets go on general sale at 11am tomorrow.
