UK woman ‘sexually assaulted on Disney cruise ship’

- By Andrew Levy

A BRITISH woman working on a Disney cruise liner says she was sexually assaulted by a colleague.

The pair were working together on the 964ft Disney Wonder and are understood to have been dating for around two weeks when the man allegedly forced himself on her.

The woman, who is in her 20s but cannot be named for legal reasons, claims she went to a staff party with the man, a 28-year-old from the Caribbean island of St Lucia, and had consensual sex with him before he assaulted her the following morning.

She reported the incident, which she said happened on Thursday last week, to Spain’s National Police in Cadiz.

The ship has been docking at the city’s port for refurbishment for several weeks and crew have been housed on another vessel, Rhapsody of the Seas, where the

alleged attack is said to have taken place.

Local police said the man, who has not been named, was arrested at the shipyard ‘on suspicion of an aggravated sexual assault’ and was remanded in custody.

A source told The Sun: ‘The woman reported the man for forcing her to engage in an extreme act which she had said no to.’

The assault claim is the latest scandal to hit the 83,000-tonne Disney Wonder, which was launched in 1999 and can carry 2,700 passengers and 950 crew.

Another British crew member, Rebecca Coriam, 24, from Chester, disappeared while working on the ship off the coast of Mexico in 2011. Her body has never been found and the case remains under investigation.

A Spanish newspaper also reported that a crew member from sister ship Disney Magic was arrested in September for indecent exposure.

Disney did not respond to requests for a comment.
