PRINCE Harry cancelled a secret trip to Canada to see his apparent new girlfriend, actress Meghan Markle.
The prince was due to get on a British Airways flight from Heathrow to Toronto at 11.30am on Sunday but was a ‘no show’, a source said.
It is believed Harry, 32, was hoping to see the 35-year-old beauty, while in Canada on business related to his Invictus Games for wounded serviceman.
The prince had booked the flight last week but did not turn up after details of his relationship with divorcee Miss Markle were made public hours earlier.
Claims the pair were ‘besotted’ with each other emerged over the weekend and keen observers spotted pictures of them wearing matching bracelets.
Initial reports suggested the couple met in May while Harry was in Canada promoting the Invictus Games, but a source claimed yesterday that they met in London at the end of June. Miss Markle, best known for her role as Rachel Zane in US legal drama Suits, appears to have spent a lot of time in the UK over the summer, posting pictures from London to her one million Instagram followers in June, July, August and September.
The actress, who is also a successful businesswoman, was seen in the players’ box at Wimbledon on June 28 – the same day Harry appeared on stage with Coldplay in West London. And she appears to have been in the UK two weeks ago, posting a photograph of herself in a Sainsbury’s supermarket.
Prince Harry was in London that week and was pictured attending the Metropolitan Police’s annual ceremony of remembrance.
Miss Markle – who shares Harry’s fondness for Africa and humanitarian work – posted a picture of herself at a celebrity retreat in Oxfordshire in September wearing a distinctive beaded bracelet almost identical to one Harry has been seen wearing.
A source close to the prince told a newspaper that Harry is ‘besotted’, adding: ‘He’s happier than he’s been Left: Meghan Markle in a picture on her Instagram account. There’s something so romantic about a man in a scarf and a knitted hat.’ Kensington Palace said it did not comment on ‘private matters’. Last night Miss Markle’s representatives were also not available for comment.
