Fox furious as his £55k BMW rolls down hill into a hedge
HE oncE did unctuous TV voiceovers for BMw, extolling the pleasure the german car brings to its owners.
‘For each of us there comes a time to choose, to turn the corner and move forward, to find a different path, travel a better road,’ he told viewers.
Unfortunately, Lewis star Laurence Fox is now at loggerheads with the german car manufacturer after his own BMw M3 moved forward of its own volition and crashed into a hedge.
A few weeks ago, Fox, 38, was on set filming in devon when he parked his coveted £55,000 runabout on a hill.
Although Fox said he had engaged the handbrake, the car rolled down the slope and collided with shrubbery, apparently causing thousands of pounds of damage to its front.
‘He raised the matter with BMw but they said the handbrake was within legal requirements,’ says a friend. ‘He was understandably miffed.’
Fox has now shamed BMw on social media by uploading a video showing the difficulty he experiences engaging the handbrake.
‘dear BMw, great job on the handbrake on my car,’ he says, as his car rolls slowly down a country road. ‘Thanks so much for “adjusting” it, even though “it wasn’t broken”.
‘right so, one click, handbrake light on. Two clicks, three clicks. And we’re rolling. Fourth click and we’re rolling. Five clicks and we’re still rolling. Six clicks and we’re still rolling. Seven — ok now we’re stuck. So that’s where you’d put it too, naturally, but you’re still rolling.’
other BMw owners have reported similar problems on social media forums. BMw did not comment. Fox opens himself to criticism, however, as his video shows him filming himself on his phone as he drives his car.
This year hasn’t been an easy ride for the old Harrovian actor, on or off the road. His eight-year marriage to Billie Piper ended in May and she wasted little time in acquiring a new boyfriend — rocker Johnny Lloyd.
