Sickening, Sir Craig

-

THERESA May’s jibe at the expense of Sir Craig Oliver, the No 10 spin doctor who led David Cameron’s Remain campaign, was perhaps less than prime ministerial. It was amusing all the same.

‘In his book’, she told guests at an awards ceremony, ‘he said when he heard the result of the referendum, he walked out of the office and as he walked into Whitehall, he started to retch violently.

‘We all understand that feeling. Most of us experienced it when we saw his name on the resignation honours list!’ Indeed, some may suffer that same reaction today, as it emerges that Sir Craig has waltzed from Downing Street into a six- figure job for a lobbying company, advising firms on how to influence Government policy on Brexit.

Thus, he becomes the latest to exploit contacts and inside knowledge gleaned in public service for private gain.

Aren’t there supposed to be rules against such conduct? Unlike Mrs May’s barb, this is not a laughing matter. Indeed, it stinks.
