WEIGH YOURSELF EVERY DAY

IT SEEMS to be much easier to gain weight as we get older, but my simple trick to combat frumpiness is to weigh myself every day. That way, keeping a careful eye on my weight is just part of my daily routine, not something to be dreaded. If I put on a couple of pounds or go above 9st 7lb, I fast for a few days — nothing but builder’s tea during the day, then fish and vegetables for dinner. I get lots of vitamins, but reduce my calorie intake, so I can get down to my ideal weight. Not only does being slim mean I look and feel fit and healthy, it makes me happier and my clothes look better.

USE GALLONS OF BODY LOTION

THE one skin-related routine I stick to is to cover myself head-to-toe in rich body lotion every day. Dry skin is ageing, but can be easily preventable. After a shower or a bath, when skin is more likely to absorb products, I massage a generous amount of lotion into my skin and wait until it’s completely soaked in before dressing. I’m sure if I didn’t do it I’d be covered in lines.

ENJOY THE SUNSHINE

WE HEAR a lot about taking care of our skin and protecting it from sun damage, which is important. But it means many of us avoid the sun. Sunshine isn’t to be feared — it’s the best thing in the world! I slap on a high-factor SPF and bask in it whenever I can. And a natural tan looks great on everyone, young and old.

DON’T GIVE IN TO ROUTINE

ANOTHER mantra I live by is avoid routine to avoid ageing. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut as we age and perhaps have less on our plate than we used to, but it’s vital to keep our diaries busy and lives exciting. A lot of my friends are young and, like me, happily child-free. Being married to a musician, I always find myself at concerts and on spontaneous trips. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

KEEP YOUR HAIR LONG

MANY women seem to think that as they age, their hair should get shorter. Because of this, I think it’s the case that short hair or bobs can look dated. As long as you keep it in good condition and not too dark, long hair can be antiageing. And don’t forget to put off grey for as long as you can! Do YoU look good for your age?
