CAMPS LATE SHOW DENIES MAIDSTONE FAMOUS WIN

-

MAIDSTONE UNITED suffered FA Cup heartbreak as Callum Camps’s last-gasp equaliser for League One side Rochdale forced a first-round replay. The National League team took the lead after 21 minutes when former Norwich man Jamar Loza was brought down in the area and Bobby-Joe Taylor scored the resulting penalty. Jay Saunders’s men were seconds away from their biggest win since being liquidated in 1992 before Camps’s free-kick deep into added time saved Rochdale from an FA Cup shock. Elsewhere Boreham Wood let a two-goal lead slip as Notts County fought back to claim a 2-2 draw at Meadow Park. The National League side took a deserved lead when Angelo Balanta produced a neat through-ball for former Arsenal junior Morgan Ferrier, who calmly finished. Balanta then turned scorer to double the lead, but substitute Adam Campbell trimmed the deficit and then popped up with a header to equalise and deny Luke Garrard’s side their first win over a Football League side in the FA Cup. Carlisle had a scare at National League South side St Albans before prevailing 5-3. Junior Morias blasted the Saints into the lead before Danny Grainger levelled from the spot. Jason Kennedy, who has now scored eight goals this season, then headed Carlisle ahead. Morias levelled the tie with a low strike, but Carlisle, the only unbeaten side in the Football League, proved too strong as Jabo Ibehre’s brace and Reggie Lamb’s strike was enough to send them into the second round, though Louie Theophanous still had time for a late consolation for the hosts.
