Now Fergie trademarks daffy title to help charity
THE enterprising Duchess of York has already cashed in on her royal connections by endorsing an afternoon tea range.
now the former Weight Watchers ambassador and U.S. chat show host plans to add even more products to the lengthy list of goods peddled by Sarah Ferguson Inc.
After losing her HRH status when she divorced Prince Andrew, Sarah recently restyled herself as a ‘philanthrepreneur’ — a cross between a philanthropist and an entrepreneur — and was appointed visiting professor of philanthrepreneurship at Huddersfield University.
Fergie left Hurst Lodge School in Ascot at 16, with six O-levels.
She is so keen to flaunt her erudite new title she has trademarked it for use for an online retail store selling an eclectic range of items including clothing, textiles, pepper pots, perfumes and bath products.
Her Philanthrepreneur From The Heart website — which does not have a launch date, as yet — will also allow philanthropists and entrepreneurs to ‘ attract’ business partners. The Duchess’s planned retail venture is an extension of her work with Huddersfield’s fashion students. They design clothes that abused women in India make to earn money, as part of a scheme called Key To Freedom.
Last year, Fergie said she was so impressed by the students’ designs that she planned to set up a shopping website called Philanthrepreneur to get them all made.
‘now I’ve got to go away and write the business plan and we’ll get investment and make this up so that people all over the world will be able to buy your designs,’ she said.
The Duchess’s ethical fashion range is sold in Britain through the Royal Collection Trust and Philip ‘Sir Shifty’ Green’s Topshop retail empire, which backs the scheme.
Fergie’s former husband Prince Andrew, a chancellor of Huddersfield University, is another supporter. Key To Freedom is run by The Prince Andrew Charitable Trust, which donates all of the project’s profits to the Women’s Interlink Foundation.
If sales of sarongs start soaring, perhaps Fergie will put under-employed daughters Beatrice and Eugenie on the Philanthrepreneur payroll.
Charity begins at home.
