Feeling stiff? Take the home lift
CHILLY winter weather can make you feel particularly stiff. And if the stairs are becoming a problem, it could be time to think about a stairlift or one of the new home lifts. Both are very easy to fit and use.
A modern stairlift chair will usually be designed to swivel and lock, allowing you to use the armrests to support your weight as you stand up or sit down with confidence.
When not in use, simply fold back the seat and footrest, and other members of the household can use the staircase unimpeded, as they always have done.
Home lifts are now much more affordable than they were and can be fitted almost anywhere. Running on a rail, they don’t require a supporting wall.
Tuck one in a corner, place it in a cupboard, or send it up to a mezzanine or landing. With a very small footprint of less than seven square feet, a lift gives freedom and flexibility.
The latest lifts can carry two or three people and a wheelchair if required. They are very quiet to use, and a great help if you want to move laundry or vacuum cleaners around.
Safety and convenience factors include a battery back-up, lighting, full or half-height doors, obstruction sensors, a key lock to stop unauthorised use and an optional seat and grab bar. Plus, the floor lid is safe to stand on upstairs when the lift cabin is downstairs.
Less expensive and disruptive than moving, a home lift can add value to a house and offer convenience to its occupants, with minimal running costs. Would the style, ease and luxury of a home lift appeal to you?
