FILM FANTASY The Huntsman: Winter’s War, 12.10pm,p 8pm,p Skyy Premiere CHRIS HEMSWORTH’S Huntsman returns as the fairytale reimagining continues with this prequel. Charlize Theron’s Ravenna is still wicked and has an equally cold-hearted sister (Emily Blunt, both pictured). DARK STORIES A Series Of Unfortunate Events, Netflix THIS eight-part series based on Lemony Snicket’s children’s tales has the quirky and sumptuously Gothic air of a Tim Burton movie. Neil Patrick Harris is very funny as the sinister actor who takes in the three Baudelaire orphans; Joan Cusack is his sweet neighbour — a far better choice of guardian, surely . . . FOOTBALL Leeds United v Derby County, 7pm, Sky Sports 1 WHEN these two met in October, it was Steve McLaren’s first game of his second spell in charge at the Rams. He started with a 1-0 home win thanks to a goal from Jonny Russell. RUGBY UNION Bristol v Bath, 7pm, BT Sport 2 AFTER back to back wins over the French side Pau in the European Challenge Cup, Bristol welcome their local rivals, top-ofthe-group Bath, to Ashton Gate. WHAT TO EAT In Defense Of Food, 7.50pm, 11.20pm, PBS America U.S. AUTHOR Michael Pollan presents some clear-headed, common-sense advice on the link between diet and health. His basic message is simple — processed food is a poor imitation of the natural foods that keep us healthy. EMOTIONAL DRAMA Delicious, 9pm, Sky 1 GINA and Sam discover yet more ways to make each other’s lives unpleasant, although they do, eventually — thankfully — find a reason to come together. Still, this drama’s most interesting character is now Teresa, Gina’s vulnerable daughter (played with sensitivity by Tanya Reynolds, pictured). SHOW TUNES Sound Of Musicals With Neil Brand, 9pm, BBC4 THE composer’s detailed 100-year history starts in Edwardian times, when London was exporting an impressive number of musical comedies to Broadway. The first of three episodes also deals with the musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein, such as Oklahoma!. NEW ONLINE SERIES Sneaky Pete, Amazon Prime A CON man fakes his way into the bosom of his cellmate’s estranged family in this tense and slyly humorous drama, which features two riveting performances: Margo Martindale (The Good Wife) as the sharp and suspicious grandmother; and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) as a dangerous old associate. The pilot is available for free. MUSIC MASTER Bowie At The BBC, 10pm, BBC4 ‘I’M very much a character when I go on stage. I believe in my part . . . I’m an actor.’ David Bowie provides a cool perspective on being Bowie in a new assemblage of clips of his BBC appearances. It’s been edited together beautifully, almost in the manner of an Arena documentary. SLICK LEGAL SHOW Bull, 10pm, Fox MICHAEL WEATHERLY (pictured), formerly of NCIS, plays uncannily perceptive jury expert Dr Jason Bull in a new drama based on the career of talk show host Phil McGraw (also its co-creator). Weatherly is a very watchable star — he’s at least half matinee idol — in a decent show that’s mired in polite cliches.
